Cadillac Celebrates Diversity at the 2013 American Black Film Festival – Don Butler

Cadillac gathers with actors, filmmakers and industry executives to celebrate art, diversity and social responsibility at the 2013 American Black Film Festival.

From June 19-23, approximately 5,000 actors, filmmakers and industry executives will gather in Miami, Florida to celebrate art, diversity and social responsibility at the 2013 American Black Film Festival. The four-day long conference will not only showcase works created by a multitude of black artists, but will offer workshops, panels and symposiums to stimulate thought and generate conversation about diversity topics. Cadillac is proud to be a premier sponsor for the event, which has generated a tremendous amount of goodwill in the African American community as well as the film industry.

I take personal interest in supporting engagement efforts like the American Black Film Festival. That is why I host “Cadillac Conversations”, a series of intimate discussions highlighting Cadillac’s commitment to the African American community. I look forward to sitting down with Jeff Friday, the Festival’s founder, to speak about the importance of partnerships like the one between Cadillac and the American Black Film Festival in the sixth “Cadillac Conversations” panel on Thursday at 7p.m.

Cadillac will be a prominent part of the festival from beginning to end. Wednesday night, Cadillac will sponsor the screening of The Incredible Defeat of Mister and Pete, the Festival’s Opening Night Film. The film, which is directed by George Tillman, Jr. and starring Skylan Brooks and Ethan Dozin, is a coming of age tale about two inner city youths who are left to find for themselves over the summer after their mothers are taken away by the authorities. The Cadillac Lounge will be open daily on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Guests are invited to participate in many exciting activities including a Q&A with director David E. Talbert and actors Boris Kodjoe and Derek Luke to discuss their upcoming film Baggage Claim.

A number of Cadillac vehicles will be on site, and we encourage you to experience them for yourself. Although the thoughtful design and aesthetics of the vehicle may be seen immediately, the best way to feel the luxury that Cadillac provides is to take a ride in any one of our vehicles. We are proud to offer a free Cadillac shuttle service throughout the Festival. It’s a luxurious, powerful way for you to travel to Festival events and activities. Our vehicles will also be on display throughout Festival venues so guests can take a closer look at their leisure.

The Festival is not only a celebration of diversity, but an opportunity to award some of the most talented black artists, filmmakers and executives in the film industry today. On Saturday, Cadillac has the privilege of presenting one such individual with the Grand Jury Award for Best Director. The award honors an exceptional director for his or her work. This year, the nominees are Sheldon Candis, Matthew Cherry, Russ Parr, and Storm Saulter.

Like the American Black Film Festival, Cadillac is committed to supporting the African American community and stands behind the Festival’s mission to inspire and coach aspiring actors, filmmakers and industry executives. We are proud to be a premier sponsor of this highly-regarded event and look forward to playing a major role in its execution.
