Editor’s Note: The AppShop feature noted below has been delayed and will not be available in 2015 model year vehicles. We remain committed to bringing this technology to market at a later date.

If you haven’t already seen the news from CES, the Chevrolet AppShop is coming to select 2015 models in the U.S. and Canada with MyLink technology, including the Corvette, Equinox, Impala, Malibu, Volt, Silverado and Silverado HD.

The AppShop will allow your new Chevy MyLink system to do even more while keeping smartphones in pockets and purses.  A selection of apps will give customers access to more music, news weather and other information and the ability to customize their preferences.  To support safe driving, each app has been specifically optimized for use in the vehicle including simple interfaces, increased audible options, and limited access to complicated functions while the car is in motion for safety.  All apps will require customer consent once downloaded to the vehicle.

Here’s a first glimpse at some of the initial apps that could be available for you to download in the new AppShop when it becomes available later this year:

iHeartRadio (U.S. only) allows you to dial up your favorite Clear Channel radio stations directly from your vehicle no matter where you are in the U.S.  Living in Las Vegas but miss Z100 in New York?  With the iHeartRadio vehicle app, you can tune into more than 1,500 of the most popular live radio stations from your vehicle’s MyLink system.  A Favorites menu allows you to access your saved stations from other iHeartRadio-enabled devices.

The app allows search, comparison and booking of a hotel room. With more than 200,000 hotels to choose from, this app gives you the freedom to experience a little more and go a little farther because a place to stay the night is always just a few touches away.

The Weather Channel

The Weather Channel app gives you the current and future weather conditions for cities all over the world. Integrated with your in-vehicle navigation system, the app will be able to give you the weather forecast along your specific route including current conditions, hourly and five-day forecasts. Since the app offers an audible reading of the forecast, you can keep your eyes on the road ahead.

NPR provides you with news, culture and humor from NPR and more than 900 public radio stations nationwide, including live broadcasts and more than 80 all-music streams. The app uses your vehicle location to automatically localize listening to the nearest NPR member station.

Slacker Radio

Slacker Radio is handcrafted Internet radio to listen and discover the perfect mix of music, news, sports, comedy and weather. Offering offline listening and on-demand access to millions of songs and albums, the Slacker vehicle app can be synced to your Slacker account and access your custom playlists in the cloud across devices.

TuneIn Radio

Expands in-car radio listening to more than 100,000 radio stations and more than 2 million podcasts streaming from every continent including sports, news, talk and music.

Cityseeker is a car concierge that provides personalized information about attractions, museums, restaurants, nightlife and shopping based on your vehicle’s location.

Eventseeker lets you seek, share and live with personalized information about events, concerts, sporting events, festivals, performing arts, family-friendly activities and more.

Glympse is a convenient vehicle app that lets you temporary share your location with a specific person in real time. Meeting a friend?  Use the Glympse app to share your real-time movement, including speed and estimated arrival time.

A spoken-word news and entertainment app that delivers up-to-the-minute headlines, traffic, sports, weather and marquee episodic content from North America’s leading publishers, broadcasters and producers.

Vehicle Health

The Vehicle Health app provides drivers with on-demand access to vehicle diagnostic reports and maintenance notifications to help you interpret that check engine light, remind you of needed maintenance and even contact your preferred dealer to schedule a maintenance appointment.
